Travelling can be a hectic experience – it’s easy to be so focused on your new schedule that you lose sight of brushing and flossing. Many people suffer from severe dental problems due to neglecting the basic rules of oral hygiene while travelling. Here are some easy ways to take care of your oral health while on the go.

When you are on the road, remember to pack a travel oral case that includes all your oral care items. A travel oral kit is a convenient way to store all the basic oral care items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, tongue scrapper and sugar free gum or mints. Always buy small portable oral care items as they are handy and easy to pack away.
Maintain oral hygiene:
In order to maintain your oral health, you need to continue what you are doing at home. If you are unable to brush your teeth after every meal, make sure you at least rinse your mouth with water. You can carry floss picks or dental picks to remove debris and plaque from your teeth while you are on the go.

Keep your mouth moist:
Dry mouth is the major cause of bad breath; hence it is important to keep your mouth moist throughout the day. Drinking water throughout the day not only keeps your mouth moist, but also helps in washing away the food particles. Moreover, good water intake keeps your well-hydrated so that you can enjoy your trip.
Improvised oral care:
In circumstances where it is inappropriate to brush your teeth (like in restaurant), you can use certain foods that will keep your breath fresh and clean. For example, salt, baking soda and various herbs have anti-bacterial properties and can be used as a substitute for toothpaste. Herbs like ginger, cardamom, basil and cloves promote fresh breath.
Have a back-up plan:
It is always advisable to carry some extra oral care supplies that may come handy in case the original ones are destroyed or lost.
