Many a time, it takes time to get pregnant. Just indulging in sexual intercourse is not only enough. Eat in small portions at regular intervals rather than gulping down too much food at one time.

It is important to have a daily intake of around 400 milligrams of folic acid. Folic acid is essential as it helps in supporting neural tube growth as well in decreasing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, cancer and even diabetes. Apart from folic acid, foods rich in Vitamins C, E and Zinc should be consumed.

Eat a lot of green leafy vegetables and several servings of citrus fruits. You must ensure that you have whole grains and foods that are rich in calcium on a daily basis in order to be able to get pregnant. You do not have to worry if you have some extra folic acid in food as it is water soluble and if it is in excess, the water shall flush out. Also understand that folic acid will be lost while cooking as it is water soluble. Hence, one must eat fresh leafy and green vegetables and in case you need to cook them, you can steam them or cooking can be done in little water.

It is advisable to eat organic food as they are high in nutrition and less in pesticides. Start having brown bread rather than white bread as it contains more zinc which is very essential for women wanting to get pregnant.

Water must be consumed regularly. At least eight glasses of water a day are a must. Stop caffeine products like tea, coffee, chocolates, etc. You can switch to herbal tea. Drinking lots of water and herbal tea will help in flushing out the excess toxins.

You do not have to refrain from all fats when trying to get pregnant. Go for the good ones. You can have oily fish. Sunflower, pumpkin seeds and nuts are also good. Stay away from foods that contain saturated fat.

Increase the level of fibre intake. Do not eat foods that contain preservatives, additives and artificial products when you wish to become pregnant. Always opt for fresh foods. They will give you a healthy body which in turn will be beneficial for you as well as for the unborn baby.

In addition to all the foods mentioned above, you can take prenatal vitamins on the advice of your doctor. These can act as nutrition supplements.
