Alcohol is Bad For Pregnant Women

Consuming alcohol which includes beer, wine, hard liquor and wine coolers, during your pregnancy are definitely not a cool thing to do. It is very dangerous not only to the pregnant mother but also to the baby. Babies who are born to mothers who like to drink alcohol may be having health problems such as the fetal alcohol syndrome which is a group of problems especially to new born babies to mothers who is an alcoholic even during her pregnancy period.

Babies who contracted the fetal alcohol syndrome are usually small in size and also underweight. Besides that, they often have birth defects when they are older they may be having behaviour problems, for example mental retardation. In the United States alone, there are about 1,200 babies are born every year with this type of syndrome.

Even a small amount of alcohol can be harmful to the mother who is pregnant and also to her baby because alcohol is considered not safe and please avoid consuming it during your entire pregnancy period. Not even on special occasion such as holidays, anniversary, parties or weekends. It is also best for you to stop smoking, too.

If you cannot stop thinking of alcohol, try to think more of the baby inside your body and also try drinking other beverages, for example plain water or fruit juices which are healthy than alcohol.

Currently, there is no cure for children who have the fetal alcohol syndrome, but they can be helped through treatment like providing then with good medical and dental care, eyeglasses or hearing aids for certain cases, and also enrolling them into a special school programs.

Therefore, it is best to keep it away from happening to you or your family members and must always bear in mind that it is bad for your health to consume alcohol during pregnancy. You must also remember that even a small amount of alcohol is not safe when you are pregnant, immediately quit drinking alcohol once you found out that you are pregnant, and if you feel that you will not be able to quit your drinking habit by yourself, you need to get assistance from professional or try to consult your family doctor on the best way that you can resolve this problem.
