How to perform a DNA test without leaving home?

DNA is the only reliable material that allows you to know if you have a biological connection with another person or if you are someone else’s father, son, or brother. Thanks to new and advanced technologies, you can buy DNA home test kits and take the samples in the comfort of your home. In the past, you had to go to the laboratory to provide the sampling material. Most of the time, you had to drive an hour or two to get to the nearest laboratory. With an at home DNA test, you will receive a kit with everything you need to collect the samples at home. The labs have designed these kits so anyone can take the sample without fear of making a mistake or having something go wrong. People only have to follow the instructions that come with the kit.

All you need is your saliva

If you’re one of those people who are afraid of a needle, you’ll love knowing that the lab will need to extract the DNA sample from your saliva. The kit includes two pairs of swabs: one pair for each of the two people who will take part in the analysis. To collect the sample, you must rub each pair of swabs against the inner part of the cheeks of each of the test subjects. Then you place the swabs in the protective containers included with the kit and fill out the forms. You must identify each sample correctly to prevent the lab from getting confused. That does not mean the laboratory will make a mistake, but the laboratory will detect an error in the samples, so you will have to buy another kit.

How does the lab test the samples?

You may think that because you are buying one of these kits on the Internet, the analysis of the samples will not be as professional as if you attended the lab in person. It is important to note that the laboratory will use the same procedure to analyze any samples they obtain, regardless of whether they receive them in a kit or if you go in person to provide them. Once the laboratory receives the kit with your samples, it will take approximately 3 to 5 days to deliver the results. The laboratory requires this time because it performs two particular tests, each carried out by two different professionals. This way, the laboratory makes sure that the results are correct. If the results from both professionals match, the laboratory sends you a report.
